Cost of the War in Iraq

Howdy Folks,
HELP HURRICANE RELIEF - DONATE NOW
Please vote this coming November 8. This election is completely about
Arnold Shwartzenegger's special interests. It is costly and
unneccesary. Basically, in terms of Statewide propositions, vote no on
everything but Prop 79.
CA Proposition 73 - NO!
(Waiting period & parental notification) Prop 73 would put teens’
lives in danger, undermine safe access to abortion in California, and
erode Roe v. Wade and women’s right to choose. This is an absurd
proposition, and a perfect of example of how special interest groups
benefit from low-turnout, expensive and unnecessary elections.
CA Proposition 74 - NO!
(Public school teacher tenure)
Another one of Schwarzenegger’s attacks on education and public
workers. Teachers need better wages and more respect, not attacks on
job security. This law would simply create an enormous bureaucracy, and
any money saved on teachers would be immediately spent on higher-ups.
CA Proposition 75 - NO!
(Public employee union dues)
A major attack on unions. Corporations outspend labor hundreds of times
over in elections. This would drastically limit workers unions’ ability
to weigh in on politics. Although Unions have screwed themselves with
corruption and bad focus, they are still the best defense against the
worker and a government that would gladly export jobs and roll back
workers' rights.
CA Proposition 76 - NO!
(State spending & school funding limits) An anti-education proposition that would eliminate guaranteed school
funding and give the Governor the power to cut any education program. This would be a boon to the bad guys.
CA Proposition 77 - NO!
(Redistricting)
A move by the right-wing to consolidate political control state-wide. Can you say Tom Delay?
CA Proposition 78 - NO!
(“Discounts on prescription drugs”)
The pharmaceutical companies’ alternative to Prop 79. This is utter bullshit.
CA Proposition 79 - YES!
(Discounts on prescription drugs, for real) A result of a
community-based effort, Prop 79 would give the state leverage to
negotiate drug discounts on behalf of low-income Californians. I have
never heard of large groups of Canadians dropping dead from toxic
pharmaceuticals. Whenever you hear someone speak of these dangerous
drugs, they are misinformed, or working for the drug companies, or both
CA Proposition 80 - NO!
(Regulation of electric service providers) What may seem on the surface
as a good environmental prop actually sells the state and its citizens
short. It calls for limits on particulars that seem fair, but any
astute environmentalist will tell you that these goals will be
surpassed, so these "goals" will actually become limits. Very deceiving.

Drink of the Month: Limoncello
Since summer in San Francisco starts in September, I will be drinking
something that goes with sunshine and warm breezes. A thermos full of
Limoncello while walking through North Beach should do just fine.
4 cups vodka, preferably 100 Proof.
Zest of 10 lemons.
2 1/2 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups water
Place vodka and zest in a sealable jar, like a mason jar and allow to
sit in a cool place for 4 days. On the fifth day place the sugar and
the water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Allow to cook 5 minutes,
remove from heat and allow to cool. Add sugar solution to the vodka
solution and allow to stand overnight. Strain through a layer of
cheesecloth in a conical sieve, pressing the solids firmly. Strain
again through a second layer in the same manner. Chill and allow to
stand 1 week. Serve very cold.
